Bookmarks

Bookmarks is your own private reading library. Save the pages you want to come back to, archive articles for offline reading, organize everything into collections and tags, and read it all in a clean, distraction-free view. Nothing leaves your home server.

Overview

Bookmarks keeps the things you want to read in one tidy place. Two kinds of things live here:

  • Live links: a saved bookmark to a page that opens the real site (in a new tab, or embedded inside MaiPai Home).
  • Offline articles: a full copy of a page saved to your server so you can read it later, cleaned up and even with the internet down.

Open the Bookmarks app. The sidebar on the left is how you move around: All, quick filters for Unread and Archived, a Type section to see just Live links or Offline articles, your Collections, and your Tags.

Saving a Page

Tap Save in the sidebar, paste a URL, and choose how to keep it:

  • Live link keeps a bookmark to the page.
  • Offline article saves a full copy to your server. MaiPai Home fetches and archives the page in the background (you’ll see a “Saving” badge flip to a reading-time estimate when it’s ready).

When you type a URL, MaiPai Home quietly checks that the site is reachable and grabs its title and icon for you. You can drop the item straight into a collection, add tags, and decide whether a live link should embed in the app or open in a real browser tab.

Save from your browser

In Bookmarks → Settings there’s a Save to MaiPai bookmarklet you can drag to your browser’s bookmarks bar. On any page, click it to save that page to Bookmarks without installing an extension. On a phone, install MaiPai Home to your home screen and it shows up in the Share sheet, so you can share any page to Bookmarks.

Reading

Tap any item to open it:

  • Offline articles open in a clean reader view: just the text, byline, and images, matched to your light or dark theme. A reading-time estimate sits at the top. If a page was saved with its full layout, you can flip between Reader and Full page to see the original look. There’s also an AI panel to get a quick summary of the article or ask a question about it.
  • Live links open the real site. If the link is set to embed, it loads full-screen inside MaiPai Home; otherwise it opens in a new browser tab.

As you open offline articles they’re marked Reading, and you can Archive anything you’re done with so it drops out of your main list (Archived items are still searchable). You can re-archive an offline page any time to grab a fresh copy.

Collections and Tags

  • Collections are folders you make in the sidebar: “Recipes”, “To read”, “Work”, whatever you like. Give each a color and icon. Move any item into a collection from its card.
  • Tags are lightweight labels. Add as many as you want to an item; tapping a tag in the sidebar filters down to everything that carries it.

A search box at the top searches across your whole library: titles, summaries, the saved text of offline articles, and even the web address, so searching a site name finds links to that site.

Importing and Exporting Bookmarks

Bookmarks speaks the standard browser bookmarks format:

  • Import bookmarks (in the sidebar): pick the bookmarks.html file your browser exports and Bookmarks brings them all in as live links. Bookmark folders become collections automatically.
  • Export bookmarks: download your saved links back out as a standard bookmarks.html file you can load into any browser.

Your admin can pin a few shared links that show up for everyone in the home, things like the family page or a shared dashboard. You can’t edit those, but you can hide any shared link you don’t want cluttering your library.

Your Privacy

Your library lives only in your account on your own server. The articles you save, the collections you build, and which items you open never leave your home. Offline articles are stored as your own private copy on the server, so they’re there even when the original page changes or goes away.
