Reference

Full reference libraries that live on your own server and work with no internet at all. Nobody logs what you read or look up.

Overview

Reference gives you whole offline archives, including Wikipedia, Wiktionary, medical references, and more, served straight from your home server. It also holds the Dictionary and Medical lookup tools. There is no internet connection required and no account anywhere tracking your reading.

Looking for something to actually read cover to cover, a novel, a textbook, a manual? That’s Books instead. Reference is for living wikis, encyclopedias, and quick lookups.

Finding an archive

Open Reference from the app list. Archives are grouped by category, such as Reference, Medical, or Education. Tap any card to open the full reader.

Reading

The reader opens full-screen inside the app and looks like a normal website. Tap links to jump to related articles, use the back and forward arrows to move through your history, and use the shuffle button to open a random article. The app even matches the archive’s colors to your light or dark theme.

Searching

Each archive has its own search box at the top of the reader. Type what you are looking for and the results come from that archive’s built-in index. It works fully offline; nothing is sent anywhere.

Your companion can also pull facts from installed archives when you ask it questions, so a quick “what is X?” can be answered from Wikipedia or a dictionary without going online, and it will link back to the article it used.

Dictionary and Medical

The Dictionary and Medical lookup tools live inside Reference too. Ask for a word’s definition or a medical term and your companion answers straight from the installed archives, offline.

Available archives

Your admin chooses which archives are installed. Common ones include:

• Wikipedia (English and other languages)
• Wiktionary and dictionaries
• Medical references
• Wikibooks, Wikivoyage, and other reference snapshots

Ask your admin to add new archives if something you need isn’t available. They are managed under Admin → Features.
