Fix a problem

Pick the line that sounds like your problem.

If it stopped answering or pages won’t load

  1. On the computer that runs MaiPai Home, close the MaiPai window if one is open.
  2. Start it again the same way you first installed it (double-click run, or run the install command again; it’s safe to re-run).
  3. Wait about a minute, then open MaiPai in your browser like usual.

Most problems end here. A restart is always safe: your family’s data is not touched.

If your phone or tablet can’t find it

  • Make sure the device is on your home Wi-Fi, not cellular data.
  • Make sure the computer that runs MaiPai Home is on and awake.
  • Open the same address that works on other devices in the house. If you’re not sure what it is, ask the person who set it up, or check Settings on a device where MaiPai works.

If the voice or wake word isn’t responding

  • Say the wake phrase clearly from a few feet away (“Hey MaiPai”, unless your family picked another one).
  • Check that the device’s microphone isn’t muted.
  • If it still doesn’t hear you, restart MaiPai Home (first section above).

If a YouTube video won’t play

YouTube is fussy about browsers it doesn’t recognize. If videos won’t start, and you also see trouble on YouTube’s own website in the same browser, the browser is the cause and not MaiPai Home.

  1. Open youtube.com in a normal browser window, not a private one.
  2. Sign in to your YouTube account.
  3. Come back to MaiPai Home and play the video again.

If videos still refuse to play in MaiPai Home but work fine on YouTube’s website, tell us (see below) and mention that difference; it helps a lot.

If an answer or picture came out wrong or upsetting

AI makes mistakes. Answers can be wrong, and generated pictures can miss the mark. Nothing it makes leaves your house, and a parent can tighten any family member’s content settings under Admin → Family.

If it’s out of date

Updates are announced on the releases page. The admin can update from Admin → Server with one click.
